With a new year just around the corner it's nearly time to wave goodbye to 2017. For Good Travel Management, it’s been a great year with lots of positive developments and changes. Here, we take a look at our highlights and give you an insight into our plans for 2018…

Mercian Travel becomes Destina


Mercian Travel, our leading luxury leisure travel agency in Hagley, West Midlands, announced a full rebrand, unveiling its new name, fresh website and new look store in May 2017. Now known as Destina by Good Travel, the agency underwent a complete refurbishment to provide a bright, modern and inviting space for its customers. To coincide with the rebrand, Destina appointed a new Head of Leisure Travel, Abi Hyslop, who had previously worked for Good Travel Management, to lead Destina in the future.

 

Marine and Energy Travel is here!


In November this year, Good Travel Management launched a new marine and energy travel division specifically dedicated to this sector and appointed industry expert Jennifer Lee Wright to head up its development. As a division of the wider John Good Group of companies, we already serviced internal clients but the new department now enables us to spread our wings and benefits out to a wider client base.

Our marine and energy travel solution fills a gap in the market that delivers much-needed specialist support for small to medium-sized marine, renewables and energy companies. Available 24/7, the service gets people in place safely, on time and on budget, whether it is a single flight booking, or organising a complete crew transfer with door to deck service. Customers enjoy access to a specialist team and marine and offshore fares that offer price reductions, flexibility and additional luggage allowance on airfares, that can create significant savings.

Earlier in the year, we partnered with travel data experts, Travelogix to deliver a new data management suite. GT Analytics provides our clients with real-time, on-demand, access to their travel management data enabling them to easily analyse business travel spend whilst working in partnership with their Account Manager here at Good Travel Management to identify trends, cost savings and benefits.

Kevin Harrison, Managing Director Good Travel Management, remarked back in May: “As we continue to grow our presence within the business travel market we proactively maintain our commitment to investing in technology and client solutions. Our customers now have immediate access travel spend data, enabling them to analyse trends in their travel budgets. It also helps us to support our clients to make fully informed decisions about changes to their travel policy, or negotiate preferred suppliers and rates on their behalf, leading to cost savings or value benefits”

 

Cyber Essential Certificate


Recently we announced our achievement in the fight against cybersecurity, with the accreditation of the Cyber Essentials Certificate. The government endorsed and industry supported scheme provides clarity to businesses on how to protect themselves from common cyber threats. Alongside Good Travel Management's current protections (such as SSL certificates on their websites) this means clients can rest assured that their data is being held and protected in the most secure manner possible.


Training


Congratulations were in order for Business Travel Consultants; Chelsea Gill, Ellen Gibby, Jack Lloyd, and Senior Business Travel Consultant Sammie Brown who passed and completed their industry recognised VA1 air travel examinations with flying colours!

Operations Director Julie Ornsby commented on the accolades back in May. “A fantastic result for all the consultants, they all worked so hard studying outside of business hours and should be very proud of their scores (between 96 -100%) We are committed to ensuring the best training for our teams and VA1 is a worldwide recognised qualification that is develops both the consultant’s expertise and the excellent knowledgeable service from Good Travel Management”


Another great achievement in 2017 was the appointment of 4 new apprentices, as we continue to lead the way in the development of young people into the business travel industry with an in-house apprenticeship and training scheme. The first wave of apprentices joined us three years ago and have become a vital cog in our engine for delivering great customer service. Chelsea Gill who was one of our first apprentices, features in a video produced by the Guild of Travel Management Companies (GTMC) focussing on the new millennials joining the business travel industry.

Our latest apprentices are now firmly on board (pictured below), working on a specialised business travel apprenticeship course delivered in partnership with Damar Training, who work with the Guild of Travel Management Companies.

So, what's on the horizon for Good Travel Management in 2018?


We are experiencing what can probably be confirmed as some of the most uncertain times from an economic perspective as we move into unknown territory with Brexit amongst many other industry and regulatory changes such as GDPR. That's where it's important to know that your travel management partner is there to ensure you have access to the widest content and the stability of a business that invests and develops its services.

We’ve strengthened our IT and Development team further in late 2017 so our priority for the year remains the products, services, payment solutions and IT tools that you, our customers need, to get the best from your travel spend. Watch out also for more developments from our leisure division at Destina and some benefits for our corporate clients when booking with Good Travel Management.

Finally and most importantly is the investment into our people as they are, what makes us, who we are. Our approach of the best people in the industry coupled with the technology and buying power we have, gives the assurance you are with the best travel management company.
