Travelling by Air
Different airlines have varying approaches to the measures they put in place for their Air Passengers, that’s why it’s always good to check with your Travel Management Company as to what these precautions are beforehand.
One of the most important messages being given by Airlines and the Government is to not travel if you are feeling under the weather. Many airports and airlines are implementing temperature checks at various stages before boarding and if you “fail” any of the checks put into place, then you will not be permitted to travel.
If possible, drive to the airport using your own vehicle or hire car, rather than travelling by public transport. Not only will you reduce the risk of public contact, but in doing so, you can arrive to the airport earlier than you normally would. It’s hugely anticipated that business and leisure travellers alike will experience longer queues for entry to car parks, terminals, check-in desks and security, just be sure to listen to all announcements when you arrive.
Make sure to pack the relevant PPE required by the Airline, including gloves, and a facemask as these will be a mandatory requirement for the majority of airlines.

TOP TIP - Many airlines may not be serving food onboard for the foreseeable, so it’s a handy tip to take food on-board.
Travelling by Rail in the U.K.
When travelling in the UK wear PPE on all public transport, face masks have become mandatory in the U.K, adhere to the rules and maintain social distancing on the platforms and station areas.
Limit your touch points by using e-tickets where possible, but if you do have to use a “paper” ticket be wary that you will need to hold the ticket up for the train manager to inspect.
As per airlines, onboard catering may not be available as it once was for some time, so it may be advised to take food on board with you depending on the length of your journey.
When staying at a Hotel
Some hotels are now contacting guests before their stay to conduct a pre-arrival registration to reduce face-to-face contact on checking in, with some providing an online check in service – if available, it is advised to check-in beforehand.
Restaurant services may not be available as some may not be able to operate fully – its best to check what food and beverage facilities are there for you upon check-in.
Upon arrival, many hotels are now implementing temperature checks. If travellers are to “fail” any such check then they will be asked to leave and will not be permitted to enter the hotel.
Even though communal areas may be open again it is advisable to avoid these areas such as Pools, Gyms and Business Centres. Whilst always ensuring a one-person policy when using lifts.
REMEMBER - It is unlikely that you will be able to store luggage at the hotel after you have checked out so keep that in mind when planning your trip as you may need to keep your luggage with you at all times post check out.
When hiring a car
The new norm of business travel is to allow more time for check-in, longer security queues etc and this also applies for car hire too. It is always advised to leave ample time when collecting your car.
Remember - Shuttle buses from airport terminals to Car rental offices will be subject to social distancing rules and therefore unable to carry as many passengers as normal. Please take a face mask/covering if using these services.
When collecting your vehicle do not be afraid to check that your hire car has been fully cleaned, inside and out, and disinfected. If it hasn’t, then you are well within your rights to refuse the car offered and request an alternative.
All travel providers are now introducing new hygiene and cleanliness measures to give people the confidence to travel again. Safety of travellers and their staff is always their top priority and whilst your first trip post Covid-19 will not as per it normally would have been, you can be sure that it will be as risk-free as possible.
