How is your corporate travel agency keeping in touch with your contractors?

How is your corporate travel agency keeping in touch with your contractors?

If your business employs contractors and you manage corporate travel for your business, you’re probably familiar with the issues this means for communication. While not every contractor prefers to be off the grid when it comes to emails and smartphones, many contractors simply don’t have access to online booking tools, booking confirmations and corporate email accounts, especially when they’re onsite. And, even if they have a mobile phone, how can you be sure it has the capability to receive emails anyway?

To ensure all your contractors receive their travel confirmations promptly, we recommend sending all confirmations by emails AND SMS text message. This way, those that can access their emails, have all the detailed information they need, yet those who prefer to receive a text message will have access to their booking details too.

SMS in a nutshell

Unfortunately, I’m old enough to remember a time before the helpful text message and even mobile phones, but it’s now over 20 years since the first SMS message was sent! Texting is now a regular part of our everyday lives, with people often preferring to send a text instead of making a phone call or meeting with someone face to face. The average UK mobile phone user will send between 200 and 250 text messages per month, and in 2011, a record number of 150 billion texts were sent! Perhaps the real beauty of SMS is that it is not reliant on being connected to the Internet, smartphone or tablet, with all mobile phones capable of receiving an SMS message (even the really old ones!).

The power of SMS

According to M: Science, 92% of adults in the UK own a mobile phone, and unlike emails, we read 97% of all text messages, and we read 90% within 4 minutes of receipt. The reach of the simple SMS text message is vast, which is why your business should be using a text message to communicate with your on the go contractors.

Quick and cost effective

Unlike email where a smartphone is required to receive them, even the most inexpensive and old phones can receive a text, which removes the issue of a lack of laptop or ageing phone that is unable to receive emails. It is proven that people are more likely to see, read and action messages received on their mobiles over any other methods of communication.

Let your corporate travel agent know

If you’re not yet using SMS within your corporate travel programme, and you think this method of communication would work better for you or your organisation, let your business travel agent know. All good travel management companies (TMCs) will work with you to determine which products and services will be the perfect fit for your business and most reputable TMCs proactively offer SMS as a method of providing booking confirmations.

While SMS is a great solution for contractor travel, we think it’s just another simple way to enhance the user experience for all travellers, after all, it’s the little things that often make the biggest difference.
