GT Events 5 minutes with Ian Cutts: What does the events and exhibitions industry mean to you?

Ian C2

We sat down with Events Manager Ian Cutts for a quick discussion about what the Events and Exhibition industry means to him. Having worked within the travel sector for over 23 years and within the Events, Trade Missions market for over 10 years, Ian is no stranger to handling a wide range of Exhibitions, Trade Missions, and Events around the globe.

His expertise alongside Events Consultant Darren Wilkins’s knowledge and Translation skills, means the GT Events team are specialists in the provision of on-hand logistical support for groups and individuals from a range of leading industry bodies and businesses.

Q: Ian, what do you love about working within the Events, Exhibitions and Trade Missions industry?

A: It’s a people thing! This arena of travel for me is all about the experience, bringing groups of people together for business that ends with them going home with an enjoyable memory of the event. For us, the experience could involve local site visits, dinners, entertainment, meetings as well as ensuring the hotel, flights and transfers are arranged and delivered successfully.

Q: What has been the most enjoyable event you have taken clients to?

A: There have been so many over the years but housing the British Delegation at the Medica exhibition in Dusseldorf has been a look forward to event every November. Not only can the charter of river cruise ships which we house the delegation on, be complex, but it is an incredibly social event with a high number of repeat visitors and friends.

Q: What’s it like working with Darren Wilkins Events Consultant for GT Events?

A: Buenos Dias! Wilkommen! Bon Jour! With 7 or 8 languages under his belt, Darren is highly talented, outgoing and calm in a person.

Having worked together for 10 years now (crikey?!) this is the guy on the ground who ensures that all runs smoothly and to plan. Our groups at Oktoberfest would not be without him and neither would I!

Q: What do you see happening for the future of the Events, Exhibitions and Trade Missions Industry?

A: I can see a few things happening in the future of Events, Exhibitions and Trade missions. Firstly, the desire to make the experience more memorable will require added creativeness and new ideas, as destinations become more diverse.

II can also see that the impact of Covid-19 travel continues somewhat, partners need added support, expertise, as well as additional reassurance and flexibility from their travel suppliers. Complexities around changing governmental travel requirements, event cancellations etc require knowledgeable Travel Agents, Events, Exhibitions and Trade Missions organisers within this sector to be ‘on the ball’. All of this whilst being able to advise on mitigating financial risk and ensuring that the safety of travellers on market visits remains the number one priority.

Q: Why should travellers heading to exhibitions, Global Trade fairs and events around the world, use an events management team like GT Events?

A: Here at GT Events, we provide a hands-on, one stop approach to individual and group travel to events, exhibitions and trade missions globally. Not only have we fully licenced agent that can arrange flights, but our team can meet our groups at the airport and transfer you to your hotel as an extension of the customers own team if required, or be on hand throughout as added support.

We ‘get’ this kind of travel, understand the needs of delegates who travel to these events, such as a trade show and the complexities that can surround them. Our network of trusted suppliers globally is constantly growing and being a partner of the Lufthansa City Center Network and Travel Leaders organisation ensures we have the commercial ability, local agents and the contacts to offer these services at a great price and with local knowledge and expertise.

Whether you are organising a trade mission to Cape Town and need somewhere memorable for a dinner, or taking a group of exhibitors to Jaipur and need a quality hotel in the right location where the team can relax after being on their feet all day, GT Events can help. We probably even know the bus driver!
